Bail Bond Agent On Trial

A motion by the defense was denied. They moved to remove the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office from a case where a bail bonds owner has been accused of extortion.

The defendant’s attorney claims that the office shifted focus to his client to divert attention from wrongdoings within the District Attorney’s Office. He sites the office’s fear of bad publicity.

The prosecutor’s claim that the accusations are unfounded and instead were an attempt to impact the election on June 3rd. The District Attorney, Birgit Fladager was running against Frank Carson, the defendant’s attorney.

Aleo John Pontillo is the owner of AJ’s Bail Bonds. The defense still contends that Pontillo cannot receive a fair trail. The Superior Court Judge speak of ‘intriguing ties’ between the DA’s office and some witnesses in Pontillo’s case, but did not find any reason to remove Fladager from the case.

The trial is set to begin on July 14th. The charges against Pontillo include conspiracy to kidnap for the purpose of extortion, conspiracy to commit grand theft as well as violating state insurance regulations.
