Counterfeit Bond

In Berks County Pennsylvania, an investigation is taking place after a bail bondsman is said to have tried to pass off a counterfeit bond in Bucks County.

The bondsman, Dean Gurney of Richmond Township, was placed under arrest. He is a licensed bond agent, working with Ace Bail Bonds in Reading. The charges include forgery, access device fraud and bad checks.

The authorities say the result of Gurney’s actions would have set an accused drug dealer free with the false bond.

District Attorney, John Adams says, “After this incident in Bucks County, I think behooves us to check and to double-check there wasn’t fraudulent activity going on in our county.”

“We’re going to do our due diligence and we’re going to check and double-check the bails that have been written by Mr. Gurney. If we find probable cause to believe this activity took place in our county also, then we will file the appropriate charges,”  he continued.

Currently Gurney is being held in the Bucks County Prison on a bond of $1 million.
